Weight Changes with Tirzepatide and Other Medications That Cause Weight Gain: Analysis of Clinical Trials

Abstract

Participants taking tirzepatide while on weight-inducing medications experienced a mean weight change of -13.3% to -26.1% over various trial durations.

  • Approximately one-fifth of participants in the SURMOUNT trials were using one or more weight-inducing medications.
  • The majority of these participants were taking one nonsteroid weight-inducing medication.
  • In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, those treated with tirzepatide and using weight-inducing medications had a mean percentage weight change of -13.3% at 72 weeks.
  • In the SURMOUNT-3 trial, the mean percentage weight change for the maximum tolerated dose of tirzepatide was -26.1% at 72 weeks.
  • In the SURMOUNT-4 trial, participants using weight-inducing medications achieved a mean percentage weight change of -18.6% at 88 weeks.
