Weight Loss Treatments and Their Impact on Symptoms and Biological Signs of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Updated

Abstract

Weight loss interventions were associated with significant improvements in several clinical features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

  • A mean difference of -0.45 in HOMA-IR indicates a 24% improvement in insulin resistance.
  • The free androgen index (FAI) showed a mean difference of -2.03, reflecting a 48% reduction in androgen levels.
  • Menstrual frequency increased by a mean difference of 2.64, representing a 43% improvement.
  • No significant changes were observed in hirsutism, quality of life, or other sex hormones, possibly due to limited data power.
  • High statistical heterogeneity among interventions and outcomes was noted, complicating the analysis.
