Reducing Kidney Scarring After Injury by Blocking YAP1-Driven Aging in Tubule Cells

Updated

Abstract

Sustained YAP1 overexpression is associated with maladaptive kidney repair following acute kidney injury (AKI).

  • Maladaptive repair after AKI is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • Increased YAP1 expression correlates with tubular cell senescence and renal interstitial fibrosis.
  • Senolytics were effective in suppressing YAP1 activity and alleviating kidney fibrosis.
  • Persistent oxidative stress elevates YAP1 levels and induces cell senescence in renal tubular cells.
  • Inhibition of the YAP1/TEAD1 pathway may reduce cell senescence and post-ischemic renal fibrosis.
