Beetroot juice before climbing and its effects on leg strength, aerobic fitness, and muscle soreness in mountain climbers

Updated

Abstract

A statistically significant decrease in muscle soreness was observed in the gastrocnemius muscles 24 hours after descending in climbers who consumed beetroot juice.

  • Acute consumption of beetroot juice is associated with improved pressure pain threshold and estimated aerobic power in climbers.
  • Notable enhancements in handgrip strength, flexibility, and horizontal jump performance were observed in the beetroot juice group compared to controls.
  • Isokinetic and isometric strength indicators showed significant improvements after beetroot juice consumption.
  • No significant differences in swelling around the thigh were found between the groups.
