AMPK controls behavior and body changes in Haliotis discus hannai under different light colors

Abstract

After four months of culturing under various light conditions, the growth rate of Pacific abalone was ranked as follows: orange light (NY) > natural light (NN) > dark (ND) > blue light (NB).

  • Cumulative movement distance and duration were lowest in the blue light group (NB), while significantly higher in the dark group (ND).
  • In the blue light group, 81% of resting time was spent hidden, compared to only 37% in the dark group.
  • Metabolomics identified 201 and 105 metabolites across different light environments, with specific markers such as adenosine and NAD associated with differential metabolism.
  • Higher expression levels of AMPKα and AMPKγ were found in the blue light group compared to other groups.
  • ATP content and energy charge values were highest in the orange light group and lowest in the blue light group.
  • Fluorescence quantification PCR showed higher expression of triglyceride hydrolysis and fatty acid oxidation genes in the dark and blue light groups compared to the orange and natural light groups.
