Abstract
SGLT2 inhibitor use among older adults with type 2 diabetes increased from 7.3% to 27.4% between 2017 and 2022.
- GLP-1 receptor agonist use rose from 3.4% to 13.8% during the same period.
- Metformin prescriptions increased, while the use of sulfonylureas declined.
- Women had consistently lower SGLT2 inhibitor use across all age groups.
- The increase in GLP-1 receptor agonist use was more pronounced in younger patients.
- Disparities in prescription patterns by age and gender may indicate barriers to equitable diabetes care.
