Appetite changes during ketamine treatment in hard-to-treat mood disorders

Updated

Abstract

No significant changes in appetite were observed in adult inpatients with treatment-resistant mood disorders following repeated ketamine treatment.

  • Appetite, hunger, and desire to eat were assessed at baseline and multiple time points up to 7 days after ketamine administration.
  • Results showed consistency across different diagnostic groups, including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder.
  • No increased risk of appetite-related undernutrition or clinically relevant weight loss was identified.
  • Findings suggest that ketamine may not have a substantial short-term impact on appetite regulation or body weight.
