How Artery Stiffness Relates to Sleep Study Measures in People with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Abstract

WP-AHI was significantly lower than PSG-AHI at 28.4 ± 19.2 versus 53.6 ± 30.2 events/h.

  • A moderate correlation exists between WP-AHI and PSG-AHI.
  • In patients with lower arterial stiffness (lower PWV), WP-AHI and PSG-AHI show significant correlation and agreement.
  • As arterial stiffness increases (higher PWV), the correlation between WP-AHI and PSG-AHI decreases.
  • Arterial stiffness may influence the respiratory measurements obtained from WatchPAT in patients suspected of having obstructive sleep apnea.
