Aspiration Risk Linked to GLP-1 Receptor Agonists During Colonoscopy: A Matched Comparison

Updated

Abstract

The risk ratio for aspiration pneumonia in patients on GLP-1 receptor agonists undergoing colonoscopy is 0.70.

  • Patients on GLP-1 receptor agonists showed a trend towards reduced risk of aspiration pneumonia compared to non-users.
  • No significant differences were found in rates of mechanical ventilation or respiratory failure between the two groups.
  • Hospitalization rates following colonoscopy did not differ significantly between GLP-1 users and non-users.
  • The findings suggest that routine withholding of GLP-1 agonists before colonoscopy may not be necessary.
