Abstract
Up to 30% of patients experience Post-bariatric Hypoglycemia (PBH) following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.
- PBH is marked by recurrent severe low blood sugar and related neurological symptoms after eating.
- Postprandial hypersecretion of the hormone GLP-1 is observed in PBH, total gastrectomy, esophagectomy, and Nissen fundoplication.
- Avexitide, a GLP-1 receptor antagonist, has the potential to reduce hypoglycemia events in patients with PBH after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
