Links Between Biological Age Indicators and Stroke Rates in a Large Population Study

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 37,832 participants, both PhenoAge and BioAge were significantly associated with stroke risk.

  • Older age, male gender, and being White were more common among stroke patients.
  • Each increase in BioAge was linked to a 1% rise in stroke risk.
  • Each increase in PhenoAge was associated with a 4% increase in stroke risk.
  • Accelerated biological aging (BioAgeAccel) raised stroke risk by 35%, while PhenoAgeAccel increased it by 60%.
  • PhenoAge demonstrated the highest accuracy in predicting stroke occurrences.
  • Accelerated aging markers also correlated with increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.
