Comparison of effectiveness, safety, and immune response of two-part versus single-part COVID-19 mRNA booster vaccines in a randomized trial

Updated

Abstract

A total of 3,988 participants received either the bivalent or monovalent booster during the study.

  • COVID-19 rates did not differ significantly between the bivalent and monovalent booster groups.
  • Combined COVID-19 and asymptomatic infection rates were 15% lower in the bivalent group compared to the monovalent group.
  • Asymptomatic infections alone were 24% lower in the bivalent group.
  • Bivalent recipients demonstrated higher neutralizing antibody levels against omicron variants BA.4/5 and XBB.1.5.
  • Adverse events were similar across both booster types, indicating comparable safety.
