Branched-chain amino acid supplements in low-protein diets and their impact on fat metabolism genes in growing pig muscles

Updated

Abstract

The BCAA ratio of 1:0.75:0.75 in a 17% protein diet significantly increased intramuscular fat content in biceps femoris muscle (P < 0.01).

  • No significant difference was observed in average feed intake or feed efficiency between the low protein diet (17% CP) and the positive control (20% CP).
  • A tendency for increased feed efficiency was noted in the 1:0.75:0.75 group compared to the 1:1:1 group (P = 0.09).
  • Dietary BCAA ratios influenced the fatty acid composition in the longissimus dorsi, biceps femoris, and psoas major muscles.
  • The BCAA ratios of 1:0.51:0.63 to 1:0.75:0.75 significantly lowered the ratio of n-6 to n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to the positive control.
  • Increased mRNA expression levels of genes related to lipid metabolism were observed in the muscle tissues (P < 0.05).
