Breast cancer risk linked to night shift work in a study of Spanish adults

Updated

Abstract

Working permanent or rotating night shifts is associated with a 1.18 increased risk for breast cancer compared to day workers.

  • Chronotype may influence the association between night shift work and breast cancer risk.
  • The risk is notably higher for women with invasive tumors, with an odds ratio of 1.23.
  • For premenopausal women, night shift work is associated with a 1.44 odds ratio for estrogen and progesterone positive tumors.
  • Findings suggest that night work could have varying impacts based on individual hormonal characteristics.
