Effects of Cacao Flavonoids on Long COVID Patients with Ongoing Fatigue: A Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In this small trial, an epicatechin-enriched cacao flavonoid supplement reduced fatigue and improved inflammatory and endothelial markers in people with long COVID.

Evidence

This randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial assigned 46 long COVID patients to 90 days of epicatechin-enriched supplement or placebo and found significant improvements in IL-1beta, IL-6, TNF-alpha, syndecan-1, and fatigue in the supplement group.

Caveat

The trial was small, and the abstract does not show clear benefit on every functional endpoint such as handgrip strength or quality of life.
