Effects and safety of combined cagrilintide and semaglutide versus semaglutide alone for overweight or obesity with or without type 2 diabetes in adults from Japan and Taiwan

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Cagrilintide-semaglutide produced greater 68-week weight loss than semaglutide alone in adults in Japan and Taiwan with overweight or obesity.

Evidence

The evidence is a double-blind, multicentre, randomised phase 3a trial of 331 adults assigned to cagrilintide-semaglutide or semaglutide plus lifestyle intervention for 68 weeks.

Caveat

Adverse events were common in both groups, especially gastrointestinal disorders, and the trial tested an east Asian population with obesity-related complications.
