How Sleep Timing, Mindfulness, and Suicidal Thoughts Are Linked in Medical Students: The Role of Anxiety, Insomnia, and Social Problems

Updated

Abstract

A total of 600 medical students participated in the study assessing the relationship between chronotype, subjective amplitude, and suicidal ideation.

  • Chronotype and subjective amplitude may predict suicidal ideation, but only when considering factors like anxiety/insomnia and social dysfunction.
  • Higher mindfulness scores are associated with lower suicidal ideation scores.
  • Subjective amplitude scores predicted suicidal ideation through both anxiety/insomnia and social dysfunction.
  • The direct effect of subjective amplitude on suicidal ideation was found to be insignificant.
  • The overall effect of chronotype on suicidal ideation was negligible when accounting for mindfulness.
