A notable increase in fibronectin expression on activated hepatic stellate cells is associated with the progression of hepatic fibrosis.

  • Fibronectin levels on activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) increase as liver fibrosis progresses.
  • PEGylated liposomes decorated with CREKA can effectively target activated HSCs due to their affinity for fibronectin.
  • CREKA-coupled liposomes show enhanced uptake in human HSCs and accumulate selectively in fibrotic liver tissue.
  • Sorafenib-loaded CREKA-liposomes suppress HSC activation and collagen buildup in laboratory studies.
  • In mouse models, these liposomes significantly reduce liver fibrosis, inflammation, and abnormal blood vessel growth at low doses.
