Testing the Danish Version of the Mystical Experience Questionnaire and How Setting, Dose, and Intention May Affect Results

Updated

Abstract

A sample of 47 healthy volunteers and 1,334 recreational users indicate that the Danish version of the Revised Mystical Experiences Questionnaire (MEQ30) shows excellent internal reliability.

  • Internal reliability estimates for the MEQ30 were excellent across all samples.
  • A four-factor structure of the MEQ30 provided the best fit to the data from confirmatory factor analysis.
  • Higher MEQ30 total scores were correlated with greater doses of psilocybin and spiritual or religious intentions.
  • No correlation was found between MEQ30 scores and the setting in which the psychedelic experience occurred.
  • The Danish MEQ30 appears to be a valid tool for assessing mystical-type experiences among Danish speakers.
