Later sleep times and symptoms in adults with ADHD measured by activity tracking

Updated

Abstract

Participants with ADHD (n = 24) exhibited significant correlations between delayed sleep timing and greater severity of hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive symptoms.

  • Delayed sleep timing and increased daytime sleepiness are associated with more severe ADHD symptoms.
  • Sleep duration and efficiency do not predict ADHD symptom severity.
  • Adults with combined ADHD subtypes show the most impaired sleep quality compared to healthy controls.
  • 91.7% of combined subtype participants reported going to bed late due to not feeling tired, compared to lower percentages in other groups.
