Desflurane and sevoflurane reduce contractions in pregnant rat uterus stimulated by oxytocin

Updated

Abstract

Oxytocin increased the duration and amplitude of contractions significantly, while 2 MAC of desflurane and sevoflurane inhibited these effects.

  • Oxytocin caused a significant increase in the amplitude and duration of uterine contractions without affecting their frequency.
  • At 2 MAC, desflurane inhibited contraction duration by 84% and amplitude by 90%.
  • Sevoflurane inhibited contraction duration by 79% and amplitude by 84% at the same dosage.
  • Both anesthetics exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition on oxytocin-induced contractions in isolated rat myometrium.
