Daily patterns of confusion after surgery in older patients given esketamine anesthesia for planned non-heart operations

Updated

Abstract

The incidence of (POD) declined from about 55% on postoperative day 1 to 18% on day 7.

  • Afternoon surgeries were associated with a lower incidence of POD compared to morning surgeries.
  • administration did not significantly reduce the risk of POD in this study.
  • Both esketamine and the timing of the operation did not significantly affect cognitive scores or anxiety and depression levels.
  • A single low dose of esketamine before anesthesia may reduce the risk of intraoperative hypotension and emergence agitation.
