Adjusting Dyrk1A gene levels in a mouse model of Down syndrome improves several Alzheimer’s disease traits

Updated

Abstract

Normalizing the gene dosage of Dyrk1A in Ts65Dn mice led to significant improvements in several age-related neurodegenerative markers.

  • The density of senescent cells in key brain regions was rescued.
  • Cholinergic neuron degeneration was prevented.
  • Reduced levels of amyloid precursor protein (APP) were observed in the hippocampus.
  • Aβ accumulation decreased in both the cortex and hippocampus.
  • Phosphorylated tau levels were lowered at the Ser202 residue in the hippocampus and cerebellum.
  • Total tau levels decreased in the cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum.
