Five-year safety and effectiveness of one anastomosis gastric bypass compared to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

Updated

Abstract

After 5 years, mean percentage excess BMI loss was -75.6% in the one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) group.

  • Non-inferiority of OAGB compared to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) was confirmed with a mean difference of -4.1% in percentage excess BMI loss.
  • Remission of type 2 diabetes was similar between both surgical groups.
  • Nutritional status did not show significant differences between the OAGB and RYGB patients.
  • Clinical gastro-oesophageal reflux disease was more common in the OAGB group, affecting 41% of patients compared to 18% in the RYGB group.
  • Among serious adverse events, 8% of patients in the OAGB group required conversion to RYGB.
