  • The remodeling of gut microbiota may activate hippocampal signaling pathways that enhance synaptic plasticity.
  • Probiotic supplementation alongside ECT may further increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression through metabolic mechanisms.
  • Neuroimaging techniques indicated normalization of cerebral glucose metabolism and blood flow after ECT.
