Natural GLP-1 in the brain's motivation area helps mice feel full and reduces their drive to eat

Updated

Abstract

Intra-LS GLP-1 significantly suppressed chow intake in male C57Bl6J mice during the early dark phase.

  • Endogenous GLP-1 in the lateral septum of mice affects feeding behavior.
  • Blockade of GLP-1 receptors with Exendin 9 did not impact standard food intake at dark onset.
  • GLP-1R blockade diminished the effect of nutrient preloading on subsequent chow intake suppression.
  • Restraint stress activated GLP-1-producing neurons in the hindbrain, with LS GLP-1R blockade reducing stress-induced reduced eating.
  • Stimulation of GLP-1R in the dorsal subregion of the lateral septum lowered motivation for food in mice.
