Essence

A single esketamine dose reduced depression-like behavior in LPS-treated mice and was linked to gut microbiome and amino-acid metabolism shifts.

Evidence

This preclinical LPS-induced mouse study found S-Ket improved behavior, partially restored gut beta-diversity, and shifted four amino-acid pathways in fecal and hippocampal samples.

Caveat

The evidence is from a mouse inflammation model with correlative microbiome-metabolite analyses, so the proposed pathway is not proven in human depression.
