The genetic structure of the red pigment concentrating hormone gene in the blue crab

A 272 bp intron was identified in the gene coding for the precursor of the octapeptide Red Pigment Concentrating Hormone (RPCH) from the blue crab.

• The intron is located between nucleotides 343 and 344 of the reported cDNA.
• This intron occurs in the region coding for the last amino acids of the RPCH precursor.
• The genomic structure of this intron is similar to that of the gene for Adipokinetic Hormone (AKH) found in the grasshopper.
