GLP-1 Drugs and the Risk of Irregular Heartbeat in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Not on Dialysis

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are associated with improved cardiorenal outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.

  • The role of GLP-1 RAs in reducing the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) in CKD patients without diabetes or obesity is uncertain.
  • Evidence suggests that GLP-1 RAs may benefit patients with obesity or type 2 diabetes.
  • Further investigation is needed to clarify the effects of GLP-1 RAs on AF risk specifically in CKD patients lacking obesity and diabetes.
