Abstract
GLP-1-based obesity pharmacotherapies, including semaglutide, have significantly advanced obesity treatment.
- GLP-1 receptor agonists are effective in obesity management.
- The dual agonist tirzepatide and antagonist maridebart cafraglutide target both GLP-1 and GIP receptors.
- Targeting GIP receptors may lead to improved metabolic outcomes.
- There is currently no evidence for anorectic effects of GIP receptor agonism or antagonism alone in humans.
- Dual targeting of GIPR and GLP-1R may offer greater efficacy than semaglutide.
