Use of GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP Medicines and Their Reported Effects in People with Lipedema from a Large Online Survey

Updated

Abstract

Lipedema is a chronic condition that primarily affects women and is characterized by bilateral, symmetrical fat deposition in the lower limbs.

  • Pharmacological treatments for lipedema are currently limited.
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) may offer therapeutic benefits.
  • Dual GLP-1/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor agonists (GLP-1/GIP RAs) could also provide potential advantages.
  • These interventions are associated with effects on weight, metabolism, pain, and inflammation.
