Among 10,382 matched patients, the risk of cardiomyopathy at 18.5 years was 0.31% for GLP-1 receptor agonist initiators compared to 0.94% for metformin initiators.

  • GLP-1 receptor agonist initiation was associated with a reduced risk of developing cardiomyopathy compared to metformin.
  • The relative difference in cardiomyopathy risk was -0.64%, with a hazard ratio of 0.43, indicating a notable reduction in risk.
  • Findings were consistent across various high-risk subgroups, suggesting a robust effect of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
