Changes in Prescriptions of GLP-1 Medicines for Children Ages 8 to 11 with Obesity from 2019 to 2026

Updated

Abstract

A significant increase in glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) prescribing for children ages 8-11 is anticipated.

  • Trends in GLP-1RA prescribing for pediatric obesity have not been documented previously.
  • The increase in prescribing may be particularly notable for children with more severe obesity.
  • Children with greater comorbidity burden could show a larger rise in GLP-1RA usage.
  • Less socioeconomic vulnerability may be associated with increased GLP-1RA prescribing.
