Links Between GLP-1 Receptor Drugs and Heart, Kidney, and Liver Health Compared to Other Diabetes Medicines in Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Cardiovascular, kidney, and liver outcomes were compared between Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and seven other antidiabetic medications in Chinese patients with Type 2 diabetes.

  • GLP-1 RAs may have distinct effects on cardiovascular health compared to other antidiabetic medications.
  • Kidney outcomes could differ when using GLP-1 RAs versus other available treatments.
  • Liver-related health consequences are also a consideration when evaluating GLP-1 RAs in this patient population.
