Effects of GLP-1 receptor drugs on heart and blood vessel health in heart failure with normal pumping function

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists reduced the composite outcome of all-cause mortality and heart failure hospitalization by 27%.

  • The analysis included six studies with a total of 4043 patients.
  • Five of the studies focused on semaglutide and one on tirzepatide.
  • Subgroup analyses indicated greater benefits for patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists specifically reduced heart failure hospitalizations (HR 0.57; 95% CI: 0.32-1.00).
  • No significant effect on all-cause mortality was observed (HR 0.81; 95% CI: 0.58-1.14).
  • Randomized trials in the analysis exhibited a low risk of bias.
