Effects of GLP-1 receptor drugs in people with fibromyalgia compared to similar patients

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In a matched real-world fibromyalgia cohort, GLP-1 receptor agonist use was linked to less opioid prescribing and fewer pain and fatigue codes.

Evidence

Retrospective propensity-matched TriNetX cohort study followed 48,025 GLP-1RA users and 48,025 nonusers for five years and found lower odds of opioid prescriptions, pain codes, and fatigue codes, with no disability-code difference.

Caveat

Observational code-based outcomes cannot prove symptom improvement or causality, and BMI and HbA1C remained higher in the treated cohort.
