Effectiveness of GLP-1 receptor drugs in treating obstructive sleep apnea and related heart, metabolism, and breathing outcomes

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists are associated with a mean reduction of 13.89 events/hour in the apnea-hypopnea index in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

  • Treatment with GLP-1 receptor agonists may lead to a substantial mean weight loss of 12.46 kg compared to placebo.
  • A significant reduction in systolic blood pressure of 4.86 mmHg is observed with GLP-1 RA therapy.
  • Diastolic blood pressure also shows a reduction associated with the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
  • These findings suggest potential benefits of GLP-1 RAs in managing both OSA severity and obesity.
