GLP-1 Receptor Agonists as Possible Treatments for Skin Conditions Linked to Other Diseases

Updated

Abstract

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) may improve outcomes in chronic inflammatory skin diseases while contributing to weight reduction and better metabolic health.

  • GLP-1RAs are associated with improved outcomes in psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and atopic dermatitis.
  • Combination therapy with tirzepatide has demonstrated enhanced skin clearance and significant weight loss in psoriasis.
  • GLP-1RAs may reduce the risk of developing psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis.
  • In hidradenitis suppurativa and atopic dermatitis, GLP-1RAs have been linked to better cardiometabolic outcomes.
  • The findings suggest that GLP-1RAs could address both skin inflammation and the underlying metabolic dysfunction associated with these conditions.
