Abstract
Current evidence demonstrates significant improvements in clinical and patient-reported outcomes in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists.
- Treatment with GLP-1 receptor agonists resulted in reduced body mass index (BMI) and disease activity, as measured by Hurley staging and the number of nodules and abscesses.
- Patients experienced fewer flares and less pain, which supported improvements in dermatology quality of life (DLQI) scores.
- Reductions in systemic inflammatory markers and improved glycemic control were observed in patients receiving GLP-1 receptor agonists.
- Beneficial effects may stem from reduced mechanical friction and metabolic improvements associated with weight loss.
- Improvements in hidradenitis suppurativa and metabolic markers occurred independently of weight-related outcomes.
- GLP-1 receptor agonists may enhance the efficacy of biologic therapies for hidradenitis suppurativa and reduce the need for additional treatments.
