How Age and Blood Sugar Levels Affect Heart Risk Reduction with GLP-1RA Treatment in Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonists reduced in T2DM, with larger benefit signals in older patients and those with lower baseline HbA1c.

Evidence

PRISMA-guided systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of 11 placebo-controlled RCTs in 83,536 T2DM participants found a pooled MACE HR of 0.87 and meta-regression moderation by age and HbA1c.

Caveat

The age and HbA1c findings are trial-level meta-regression signals with moderate heterogeneity, so they do not prove individual-level treatment selection effects.
