GLP-1 receptor agonists and their link to death and serious kidney problems in kidney transplant patients with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonist use in kidney transplant recipients with type 2 diabetes was associated with lower all-cause mortality and major adverse kidney events.

Evidence

This systematic review and meta-analysis pooled four retrospective cohort studies including 27,153 adult kidney transplant recipients, 5,479 of whom received GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Caveat

The evidence is observational, with high heterogeneity for mortality and influence from a single large cohort, so the results are exploratory rather than confirmatory.
