Glucagon-like peptide-1 reduces immune cell buildup and inflammation in fat tissue of obese diabetic mice

Updated

Abstract

Fat mass and adipocyte size were significantly reduced in adipose tissue of rAd-GLP-1-treated ob/ob mice.

  • Adipose tissue from rAd-GLP-1-treated ob/ob mice showed significantly decreased mRNA expression of lipogenic genes.
  • Populations of certain macrophages and levels of inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6 and TNF-α, were significantly reduced in the same tissue.
  • Expression of M1-specific inflammatory genes was significantly reduced, while M2-specific gene expression remained unchanged.
  • Activation of key inflammatory pathways, including NF-κB and JNK, was significantly reduced in adipose tissue of treated mice.
  • GLP-1 receptor activation in adipocytes and macrophages may reduce inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity.
