Stopping glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor drugs and risks of serious heart problems in adults with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In Veterans Affairs adults with type 2 diabetes, continuous GLP-1RA use was associated with lower three-year major adverse cardiovascular event risk, while discontinuation or interruption weakened that benefit.

Evidence

This target trial emulation used Veterans Affairs electronic healthcare data on 132,551 GLP-1RA starters and 201,136 sulfonylurea starters followed for three years.

Caveat

Because the evidence comes from electronic database emulation rather than randomization, residual confounding and the Veterans Affairs population limit causal and general-population inference.
