Starting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists soon after heart attack in people with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Initiation of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RAs) post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) was associated with a 48.4% reduction in all-cause mortality among patients with type 2 diabetes.

  • GLP1RA use did not significantly reduce recurrent coronary events (3.7% vs 3.8%).
  • There was a significant reduction in heart failure hospitalizations (HR 0.578).
  • GLP1RA use was associated with a lower risk of acute kidney injury (HR 0.688).
  • Cardiac arrest occurrences were significantly reduced (HR 0.549).
  • All-cause hospitalizations were lower in the GLP1RA group (HR 0.673).
