Use of diabetes drugs that affect appetite hormones in unexplained high brain pressure: a systematic review

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonists show preliminary promise for idiopathic intracranial hypertension beyond weight loss alone.

Evidence

This systematic review of nine adult IIH clinical studies, including one RCT and eight observational studies, found reported improvements in headache, weight, acetazolamide or surgery use, papilledema or visual outcomes, and rapid ICP lowering with exenatide in a small RCT.

Caveat

Interpretation is limited by potentially overlapping retrospective data and minimal randomized evidence.
