Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists Compared to Insulin for Diabetes After Organ Transplant

Updated

Abstract

Among 70 solid organ transplant recipients, 51% in both GLP-1 RA and insulin-only groups achieved their A1c goal within one year.

  • The median A1c levels were 7.0% in the GLP-1 RA group and 6.9% in the insulin-only group, showing no significant difference.
  • One year after starting therapy, insulin use decreased to 69% in the GLP-1 RA group, compared to 94% in the insulin-only group.
  • Patients in the GLP-1 RA group required 7.2 fewer injections per week than those in the insulin group, who experienced 4.6 more injections.
  • The findings suggest that GLP-1 RA may provide comparable glycemic control to insulin while reducing the frequency of injections.
