Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Drugs and Risk of Brain Bleeding Without Injury in People with Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are associated with a lower risk of nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in patients with type 2 diabetes.

  • The use of GLP-1RAs was linked to a hazard ratio of 0.743 for ICH, suggesting a reduced risk compared to non-users.
  • Lower ICH risk was consistently observed across all identified ICH locations.
  • GLP-1RA exposure was associated with a significantly decreased rate of all-cause mortality, with a hazard ratio of 0.525.
  • These medications also correlated with a reduced risk of ischemic stroke, indicated by a hazard ratio of 0.871.
  • Findings indicate a potential protective effect of GLP-1RAs on intracerebral hemorrhage, warranting further investigation.
