Healthy sleep habits linked to lower risk of kidney stones in UK adults

Updated

Abstract

Every 1-point increase in the healthy sleep score is associated with a 7% reduction in the risk of kidney stone disease.

  • A total of 3818 new cases of kidney stone disease were recorded among participants during the follow-up period.
  • Five healthy sleep factors were assessed to create a healthy sleep score ranging from 0 to 5.
  • Participants with a healthy sleep score of 5 had a 20% lower risk of kidney stone disease compared to those with scores between 0 and 2.
  • The findings suggest that maintaining healthy sleep patterns may contribute to a lower risk of developing kidney stone disease.
