HeQi San improves chronic inflammation and changes gut bacteria in a mouse model of hormone-induced polycystic ovary syndrome

Updated

Abstract

HQS treatment at doses of 8.75 g/kg and 17.5 g/kg for 4 weeks significantly reversed hormonal imbalances in PCOS mice.

  • HQS improved insulin resistance and histopathological changes in ovarian tissue.
  • Treatment inhibited the expression of P-NF-κB and reduced levels of inflammation markers IL-6 and TNF-α.
  • HQS decreased the number of apoptotic cells and reduced the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins in ovarian granulosa cells.
  • The co-culture model indicated that HQS may prevent apoptosis in human ovarian granulosa cells.
  • HQS altered the gut microbiota composition, increasing bifidobacterium and parasutterella while decreasing lachnoclostridium.
