Testing Whether Hypnosis Can Help Create a Mystical Experience

Updated

Abstract

A composite acceptability score of 9.45 indicates high feasibility and acceptance of a hypnosis-oriented intervention for facilitating mystical experiences.

  • Ten college students participated in a hypnosis-based exercise aimed at inducing a mystical experience.
  • All participants displayed mid-to-high levels of hypnotizability.
  • Seventy percent of participants achieved a 'complete mystical experience' as measured by the Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ30).
  • No participants dropped out, and all expressed willingness to participate again.
  • Further research with a larger sample is needed to confirm these preliminary findings.
